Sacramento Area Miata Owners Association

The Ad Hoc Committee for The Betterment of SAMOA met today and we came to some conclusions...

First some facts...Car clubs are social clubs...We all pay a price to join a car club...The price of car ownership is the cost of the initiation fee to join the club...So why buy the car and why join a club of like minded folks...To be social would be my guess...Or because it was free for the first year...

Second...After being a member for 20+ years I've seen the club go through many phases of participation...Some up...Some down...So way up and some way down...Right now, for circumstances beyond our control (COVID 19) we are on a way down period...We have no one doing any events other than the two folks who have done runs this year...Events are social conduits...A social club is successful...

Third...The bulk of our club right now are members with 5 or less years of membership...64% of the club...Only 17% have more than 10 years of membership...Of those with 10 years or more, the vast majority are over 65 years old or more...I think with 64% being members with 5 or less years of membership, it would be incumbent on those members to keep the club going..

So regarding those statistics, why did those 64% actually join the cub...With just an informal look at the 5 years and under membership, I think I can safely say that exactly 0% have organized an event...I believe it is incumbent upon the younger/newer members to do events...Organize a simple drive...It doesnt have to be complicated...Find some fun roads...find a fun place to go to...A state park for a picnic...A national park to sight see...A fun out of the way funky town...Just some fun roads...A fun activity like miniature golf...Frisbee golf...A car show...A museum...A festival...Asparagus anyone?...An overnighter to Bodie...An overnighter to the Movie Museum in Lone Pine California...Fort Cronkite...Fort Point...A backroads drive to Monterey and a ride on the glass bottom boat...Whale watching...A poker run...A gimmick rally...

Ok...Rant off...

We still need someone to organize the annual toy run...I also suggested the turkey run to benefit the Sacramento Food Bank...No one volunteered for either charitable event...

Anyone enter the Cruise Fest?...I did...
